Solid Waste and Recycling January Schedule
Fayetteville AR – The City of Fayetteville Solid Waste and Recycling Division would like to announce the January schedule including New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King holiday information, extra bag sticker information, Christmas tree recycling, leaf removal information, screened compost available for sale, Transfer Station hours of operation, Compost Facility hours of operation, mulch distribution, and Recycling Drop Off information.
New Years Day Holiday Information The Solid Waste and Recycling office will be closed on Friday, December 31st for the New Years Day holiday. The compost Facility will be closed on Saturday, January 1st, 2011 for the holiday. Residential trash, recycling and yardwaste collection will not be affected during the New Years holiday week. Commercial collections will not be collected on Saturday, January 1st, 2011.
MLK Day Holiday Information The Solid Waste and Recycling office will be closed on Monday, January 17th for the MLK Day holiday. Residential and Commercial routes will run on their normal schedules.
Extra Bag Stickers In December, each single family household was mailed 4 free extra bag stickers for 2011. The 2010 extra bag stickers can be used until January 13th, 2011 to help out with excess holiday trash. 2011 stickers will be the only stickers accepted after January 13th, 2011.
Christmas Tree Recycling Residents can set their live Christmas trees curbside on their regular service day for collection with the yardwaste program. Trees will be collected curbside until January 13th, 2011. Residents can also bring their trees to the Compost site for free during normal operating hours (see hours below). All trees must be free from all plastic bags, stands, decorations, lights, and tinsel before they will be collected. No artificial trees will be collected for composting.
Fall Leaf Removal Information The City of Fayetteville does not remove leaves curbside with the City’s street sweeper. Homeowners are responsible to properly manage leaves through the yardwaste collection program. Homeowners should not rake or blow leaves into streets, gutters, or stormwater drains. Leaves can be placed in 30 gallon paper bags purchased at local retail stores or in unlined trash cans marked “yardwaste”. Collection occurs the same day as normal trash and recycling collection and must be placed curbside by 5:00 a.m. The Compost Facility can accept leaves, not in plastic bags, for free from Fayetteville residents. Information on “backyard composting” for leaves is available by calling Brian Pugh at 718-7685 or through e-mail at [email protected]
Compost Distribution Screened compost is now available while supplies last during normal operating hours (see compost facility operating hours below).
Only Fayetteville residents are allowed to purchase the compost and must show proof of residency through their water bill. No commercial customers or apartments are allowed to receive compost. Please bring a copy of a recent water bill showing solid waste charges for proof of residency. Residents will only be allowed to purchase one scoop for $20 plus tax when the compost is available. One scoop is approximately 2 ½ cubic yards or enough to fill the bed of a regular size pick up truck. Limiting to one scoop allows a chance for most residents to purchase the compost should they desire.
Compost Facility Hours The City’s Compost Facility at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. is open during normal operating hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weekend fall/winter hours are in effect and the site is open the first Saturday of each month from 8 am to noon. The site will be closed on Saturday, January 1st for the holidays.
Residents of Fayetteville are allowed to drop off brush, leaves or grass during these hours but need to bring a recent water bill showing solid waste charges and proof of residency to drop off yard waste for free. Commercial landscapers and contractors are allowed to use the site for drop off purposes and normal fees apply.
Transfer Station Hours The City’s Transfer Station for the disposal of solid waste is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 2pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 10 am, excluding holidays. The fees for disposal are $40 per ton, $25 minimum or $6 per bag. The Transfer Station will be closed on Friday, December 31st, and Saturday, January 1st, 2011 for the holidays.
Mulch Distribution Mulch will be made available during normal operating hours (see above) while supplies last. The fee for mulch is $10 per scoop (2 1/2 cubic yards) and is available to anyone.
Recycling Drop Off on S. Happy Hollow The Solid Waste and Recycling Division operates a recycling drop off center located just off 15th St. on S. Happy Hollow. The site is open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week to provide convenient recycling options. Volunteer groups are being sought to work a few hours on Saturdays to clean the site and provide education to those wishing to recycle. Please contact Brian Pugh at 718-7685 for more information.
