Morningside Sidewalk Improvements

Due to the heavy snow, construction work on the Morningside sidewalk project was delayed. The start of the project has been moved to Wednesday, February 16th.

The project will construct a sidewalk along the west side of Morningside Drive from Huntsville Road to Fifteenth Street. Improvements will consist of installing new sidewalk, storm drainage pipe, inlet boxes and curbing along the west side of the street. These improvements are intended to improve sidewalk connections and pedestrian safety.

Improvements to the section from Fairlane Street to Fifteenth Street are made possible by Federal Transit funds from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department to implement New Freedom projects. New Freedom funds are not part of the federal stimulus program. Improvements to the section from Huntsville Road to Fairlane Street are funded by the City of Fayetteville Capital Improvement Program.

Work will begin Wednesday, February 16th, and continue through April 2011. Scheduled work hours will be 7:00 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m. each day.

Construction will require closing the street to through traffic during the work hours. The street will be open to regular traffic at night. Residents will be allowed access as needed.

Detour routes will be marked and will utilize Fifteenth Street, Curtis Avenue, Huntsville Road to the east and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., South College Ave., Fifteenth St. to the west.

We regret the inconvenience this may cause; however, this will allow needed improvements to be made.

On behalf of the City of Fayetteville, we would like to express our appreciation for your cooperation and understanding as we perform our work in this area. For additional information on the project, please contact Keith Shreve [email protected] or Ricky Vaughan [email protected] or call the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division office at 575-8228. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
