The Fayetteville Parks and Recreation department has received the Tourism/Recreation Program of the Year award for the city’s trail system from the Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association.

The award was announced during the non-profit organization’s annual conference on Feb. 1 in Little Rock and included the city’s adoption of the Fayetteville Alternative Transportation and Trails Master Plan and the results of the construction of over 18 miles of trails and 13 miles of on-street linkages.

The trails, which city officials say are used by an average of 2,000 people per day, also serve as the location for public art including the Hoover Sculpture and two children’s art kiosks.
