ESPN to televise Arkansas’ spring football game

Move over other schools who usually have their spring football games televised. The Razorbacks are ready for their closeup.

University athletics officials on Monday announced that ESPN will be televising Arkansas’ annual inter-squad “Red/White” spring football game, which kicks off at 3 p.m. April 16.

It will mark the first time in school history that the Hogs’ spring game will be televised live nationally. ESPNU televised the Razorbacks’ 2006 spring game on tape delay.

“This is a great opportunity for fans to once again show the pride and passion they have for the Razorbacks,” said head football coach Bobby Petrino. “The atmosphere our fans created at our games last year was electric, and recruits responded in a positive way to our coaches about the environment they saw. I believe the time of the game gives fans statewide a chance to be a part of sharing our program with a national audience.”

Arkansas opens spring practice on March 15, and they’ll officially begin the 2011 season against Missouri State on Sept. 3 at Razorback Stadium.
