Area kids are invited to pack a lunch, grab their walking shoes, bicycles, skateboards, hoverboards—whatever—and join Mayor Lioneld Jordan for the first Trail Tour of 2011.

The event will begin in front of the Fayetteville Public Library at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, which is also the first day of the Farmers’ Market. The tour will leave from the library and head up Frisco Trail to Wilson Park, where families can enjoy their picnic lunches while being entertained by children’s band Shaky Bugs.

Let’s Move campaign

The trail tour is part of Let’s Move! Fayetteville, a local initiative of the nationwide health campaign launched by First Lady Michelle Obama whose ambitious goal is to solve the challenge of childhood obesity.

“Nothing is more important for our future than the health of our children because they are our future,” said Mayor Jordan in a statement. “We must do everything we can to give them a healthy start, a healthy community, and a healthy future.”

The Trail Tour event is open to everyone. Parents are encouraged to tag along for both the tour and picnic at Wilson Park.
