One of Fayetteville’s busiest, yet half-vacant intersections is about to get a serious facelift.

Construction of a new, 10-pump, 5,000-square-foot Kum & Go gas station and convenience store is underway at the southeast corner of North College Avenue and Township Street.

The store’s footprint, including parking spaces, will occupy the buildings and lots that were once home to Butcher Block Steak House, Bill & Tony’s Liquor Store and Tabriz Auto.

The restaurant and liquor store buildings have been empty for months, along with the former car sales lot across the street. Combined, the vacant corners are quite a contrast to the north side of Township where business at Walgreens and Days Inn is usually bustling.

“Kum & Go is very excited to be building this new store in Fayetteville,” said Catherine Huggins, a spokeswoman for the company. “We’ve really enjoyed opening our other stores in this area. In particular, we have appreciated the way Northwest Arkansas customers have embraced our stores and welcomed us to their communities.”

Kum & Go opened its fourth Springdale store in late 2010 and celebrated the grand opening of its third location in Bentonville earlier this month.

In all, there are 12 Kum & Go locations in Northwest Arkansas and 26 stores throughout the state.

Huggins said she anticipates the new location in Fayetteville to be open in early July.
