Transportation Services Director Terry Gulley presents photos from the April 25 flood to members of the Fayetteville City Council.

In brief presentation during the City Council agenda session on Tuesday, city officials shared some photos taken during a survey of the Monday afternoon flood damage around town.

“We’ve been asked by the county and state to photograph, give GPS coordinates, and document anything we believe would be flood-related in terms of repairs and damage of properties,” said Don Marr, the mayor’s chief of staff.

“

Unless you were out driving around, you didn’t get a real full picture of what was going on out there.

Marr said that in order for the area to be eligible for federal disaster assistance, the entire county must meet a dollar figure of $664,000 in uninsured losses.

Some of the most bizarre photos presented were of the Scull Creek Trail underpasses where water filled the tunnels underneath Appleby Road and the Fulbright Expressway.

“Unless you were out driving around,” said Transportation Services Director Terry Gulley, “you didn’t get a real full picture of what was going on out there.”

Gulley said his department worked overnight to clear clogged drains, and level road surfaces where water created potholes and washed away asphalt.

The following photos were provided by the City of Fayetteville Transportation Department as part of Terry Gulley’s presentation to the City Council on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.
