Openings: Q2 2011 Fayetteville boards, commissions and committees

It’s time to fill some open board, commission and committee positions here in Fayetteville.

The city last week released its 2nd Quarter list of vacancies and if interested, you’ve got until 5 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 to apply.

There are a total of 22 open positions this time around including terms on the Fayetteville Arts Council, the Walton Arts Center Council and the Planning Commission.

Q2 2011 openings

ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD
– Three terms ending 6/30/14
Meets: Regular meetings are held the second Monday each month at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: This board acts in an advisory capacity to the Animal Services Superintendent, the Mayor, and the City Council on all policy matters pertaining to the Animal Services Division activities, and works to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that the programs, goals and objectives of the Animal Services Division are consistent with community needs and desires.

BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS
– One unexpired term ending 3/31/12
Meets: Regular meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 3:45 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The purpose of the board is to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged that there is error or ambiguity in any order, requirement, decision, interpretation, or determination made by the City Planner.

CONSTRUCTION BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT AND APPEALS
– Three unexpired terms ending 3/31/15
– Two unexpired alternate member terms ending 3/31/12
Meets: No regularly scheduled meetings. Members are telephoned a week in advance of meetings.
Description: This board hears and acts upon appeals regarding decisions made by the Building Inspector/Superintendent. It also hears appeals regarding construction materials to be used in new building construction and development. In addition, it hears appeals regarding enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures as specified in the Standard Building Codes.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION COMMITTEE
– One science discipline term ending 6/30/14
– One citizen-at-large term ending 6/30/14
Meets: The second Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in City Hall.
Description: This committee works to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment, and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. It makes recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council on matters concerning the environment.

FAYETTEVILLE ARTS COUNCIL
– One working artist term ending 6/30/14
– Two arts and cultural/citizen-at-large terms ending 6/30/14
Meets: Regular meetings are held quarterly at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: Helps define the community’s identity and sense of place, promote social interaction, bring the arts into everyday life and memorialize the past while expressing shared values for the future.

HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
– Two terms ending 6/30/14
Meets: Regular meetings are held the first Thursday of each quarter at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The commission recommends the establishment of historic districts to the City Council. Its basic function is to promote the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public through the preservation and the protection of buildings, sites, places and districts of historic interest.

PLANNING COMMISSION
– One unexpired term ending 3/31/14
Meets: Regular meetings are held the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The commission makes recommendations to the City Council regarding zoning changes, all annexations, and conditional uses. The commission also makes recommendations concerning amendments or changes to the Master Street Plan, General Land Use Plan, or other comprehensive planning elements.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS BOARD
– Two terms ending 6/30/15
Meets: Regular meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The purpose of the Telecommunications Board is to advise the City Council on telecommunication issues and to coordinate and oversee telecommunications franchise systems and use of the public rights of way designated for public access, educational, and governmental (PEG) use in the City of Fayetteville as part of the City’s telecommunication infrastructure.

WALTON ARTS CENTER COUNCIL
– Two terms ending 6/30/15
Meets: Meetings are held four times a year at 4:00 p.m. in the Walton Arts Center.
Description: The Council is responsible for reviewing and revising, as required, the Center’s policies and fee structure, and for recommending to the Walton Arts Center Foundation passage of the annual operating and capital budgets.

WALTON ARTS CENTER FOUNDATION
– One term ending 6/30/14
Meets: Meetings are held two times a year at 4:00 p.m. in the Walton Arts Center.
Description: The Foundation is primarily responsible for administering donations made to the Walton Arts Center Endowment Fund and ensuring that they are properly invested.
