Moms are amazing.
For one thing, they gave birth to you, either the “natural” way (ouch), or by having you surgically removed from their body (extremely inconvenient, painful).
For another thing, they gave you food for your entire childhood, bought you pants and shirts, took you to your t-ball games and sat out there in the hot sun watching you screwing around with your baseball glove on your head while you ate different types of grass from the outfield.
They cleaned poop off of you countless times, put band-aids on your skinned knees, did your laundry, carried around bags of Cheerios for you to throw on the floor of the restaurant.
That’s not even half of it. Remember what a jerk you were when you were a teenager?
Moms, I have no idea how you do it. We salute you. Happy Mother’s Day weekend, everyone.
Friday
Wanna do a little happy hour dancing? RJ Mischo kicks off the evening at 6 p.m. at George’s, and Catfish Jackson will play the lounge at 7 p.m. Later on, alternative rockers Fools For Rowan are in the garden, and Kory Montgomery will close out the night in the lounge.
Mountain of Venus is playing an acoustic set at Greenhouse Grille during dinner Friday night, and Guta will be at Smoke & Barrel.
There are a few more chances to see Les Miserables at Walton Arts Center over the weekend. Our reviewer, Tobias Wray, said that it’s standing-ovation-worthy.
The Razorback Baseball team could really use your support this weekend. There are two games left in their three-game series with Florida at Baum Stadium. The Hogs are currently battling with Alabama for the lead in the SEC Western division.
Saturday
After a bit of early morning rain, things should clear up nicely for a Saturday at the Farmers’ Market on the Fayetteville square. Get some flowers for a mom.
The Friends of the Fayetteville Public Library will host a Book Sale from 9 a.m.-noon in the library parking garage at the Rock Street entrance. Paperback books will be 25¢, and hardbacks will be 50¢.
If you’re feeling like some comedy Saturday night, Phunbags Comedy Improv will be at UARK Ballroom beginning at 8 p.m. Admission is $5.
If you like local band The Commoners, local fashion, or of you’re interested in helping out orphans in Kenya, George’s is the place for you Saturday night. They’re hosting the Globaluxe Fashion Show, a benefit for Sarah Fennel’s Restore Humanity project to build an orphanage in Kenya.
MSG, otherwise know as Matt Smith Group, is at Smoke & Barrel Saturday night. Matt will be joined by Ken Everts on drums, and Drew Packard on bass.
Sunday
If you’re interested in catching any of the Joe Martin Stage Race action this weekend, Sunday might be the time to do it. The criterium races begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, and the fast-and-furious 1.2-mile-course begins and ends the intersection of Center and Church Street. There are seven criterium races, and each one takes about 25 minutes from start to finish.
Tunes-wise, Cadillac Jackson is at George’s for Monster Mug night, and the Lightbulb Club has a rare Sunday night show with The Sound of the Mountain (Russellville, AR) and David Israel (Austin, TX).
