Fayetteville Farmers’ Market among leaders in national competition

Remember about a month ago when we told you guys that the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market would be taking part in the 2011 America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest, and would need our help to win?

Well, with just over a month left in the competition, the Fayetteville market is among the leading vote-getters in the large market category of the contest (more than 56 vendors).

The Fayetteville Farmers’ Market currently sits in third place in its category with 296 votes, behind the Las Cruces, New Mexico market (492 votes) and the Ballard, Washington Farmers’ Market (355 votes).

The contest is a nationwide challenge to see which markets can rally the most support from their communities.

Four winning markets—one large, one medium, one small, and one boutique—will receive the title of America’s Favorite Farmers Market for 2011. Winners will be featured on the leading food site Epicurious.com, and will be honored at local celebrations that include prizes.

The America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest is hosted by American Farmland Trust, a conservation organization dedicated to saving America’s farm and ranch land, promoting environmentally sound farming practices, and supporting a sustainable future for farms.
