Registration open for inaugural Northwest Arkansas Cheese Dip Classic

Anyone wishing to enter the Northwest Arkansas Cheese Dip Classic better get their recipes ready. The event is less than two months away and it’s already time for contestants to register.

Online registration is open through Sept. 1 for both the amateur and professional divisions.

For contestants, it’s a chance to receive free entry into the 2nd Annual World Cheese Dip Championship held in Little Rock. For everyone else, it’s an opportunity to eat gallons and gallons of tasty cheese dip.

Organizer John McClure recently told us that the World Cheese Dip Championship in North Little Rock last year was so popular that he knew he needed to expand.

“When we did the first one, we had 31 competitors and over 6,000 people showed up,” said McClure. “We asked each vendor to do 5 gallons of cheese dip. An hour and 45 minutes into the festival, we were almost out.”

Two new competitions were created: the Mid-South Cheese Dip Classic in Southaven, Mississippi and the Northwest Arkansas Cheese Dip Classic in Fayetteville.

The NWA event is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 in Fayetteville at the Arkansas Music Pavilion.

The champion will be determined by a panel of local celebrities, politicians, and food critics through a series of blind tastings. Attendees will be encouraged to vote on the “People’s Champion.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of NWA.

Entry fees for teams entering the competition range from $75 to $125.
