The northeast corner of the paid parking lot across from the Walton Arts Center may one day be home to a boutique hotel.

Out-of-town Hog fans, bikes-blues-and-barbecuers, your aunt, and other visitors to Fayetteville might have the option to stay on Dickson Street in a few years, if a group of investors have their way.

The Northwest Arkansas Times‘ Joel Walsh had a story on Saturday, and a follow up today about local investor John Davidson’s plans for a 60- to 75-room boutique hotel in the city-owned Walton Arts Center parking lot.

According to the articles, Davidson represents a group who has has been in talks with city staff for weeks about leasing parking spaces in the northeast corner of the lot for the hotel.

We expected to hear more about the project at Tuesday night’s City Council Agenda session, but Mayor Lioneld Jordan said that negotiations with Davidson are still ongoing.

“I dont’ have anything to bring to you yet,” Jordan told the City Council Tuesday night. “When we get something put together, we’ll bring it to you.”

The decision on whether or not to lease the spaces in the lot would ultimately be up to the council.

What do you think? Should the city lease some parking spaces in the Walton Arts Center lot for the construction of a downtown hotel?
