Expect a lane closure and a speed limit reduction on I-540 tonight near MLK Blvd. (exit 62).

Road work in the MLK Blvd. exit area of I-540 today will require a closure of the outside northbound lane of the interstate starting at 11 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday.

Expect a closure from mile marker 61 to mile marker 63 to allow for the removal of a precast concrete barrier wall on the outside shoulder of the interstate.

The speed limit in this work zone will be reduced from 65 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour. Reminder: Under Arkansas law, fines are doubled for violations in the work zone.

In July 2010, the Arkansas State Highway Commission awarded a $4 million contract to Sweetser Construction, Inc., of Fayetteville, for the project to implement short-term improvements at the I-540/Highway 62/180 (Exit 62) interchange. The project includes radii ramp improvements, radii improvements to Shiloh Drive and Futrall Drive, and the relocation of the northbound on-ramp.

The project is scheduled to be completed by November 2011.
