A Beaver Lake watershed lakeside map is now available to the public, free of charge, while supplies last.
The map, which features the lake on one side and information about best management practices on the other side, is published by Beaver Water District and Audubon Arkansas.
A watershed is an area of land that drains water, sediment, and dissolved materials to a common receiving body or outlet, which in this case, is Beaver Lake.
BWD officials said since Beaver Lake is the primary source of drinking water for one in seven Arkansans, it makes sense to educate the public about potential sources of contamination that can impact the lake.
“The main message we want to get across to the public is that what you do in the watershed affects water quality in the lake,” said Amy Wilson, Director of Public Affairs for Beaver Water District. “We want people to connect the dots when they turn on their taps and get abundant, safe drinking water anytime they want it. We all have a responsibility to take care of our drinking water and to also care about other life forms that have to have clean water to survive and thrive. For example, when it’s time to fertilize your lawn or wash your car, we want you to think about what you are doing that could impact the quality of the water you drink.”
Beaver Water District supplies drinking water to more than 300,000 people and industries in Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville and surrounding areas.
