Fifty Dollar General stores across the state of Arkansas were approved to sell beer this week by Alcoholic Beverage Control director Michael Langley, including both of the Fayetteville stores.

The retailer applied for permits for 64 of their stores statewide, and all but 14 of them were approved.

Both the store at 1216 N Garland Avenue, as well the one at 461 W. 15th Street will begin selling beer soon. The store in Johnson (which technically has a Fayetteville address at 2215 Main Drive) was also approved, and an Elkins location (also with a Fayetteville address at 2393 North Center Street) was denied due to an objection from the chief of police.

The Kum & Go at 2388 North College Avenue in Fayetteville was also approved to sell beer this week.

All of the Dollar General stores in Springdale were denied due to opposition by Mayor Doug Sprouse, chief of police Kathy O’Kelley, and State Representative Jon Woods.

Stores that were denied their application may appeal the decision to the ABC board of directors.
