Fayetteville tree and shrub giveaway set for Saturday, Oct. 15

The White-flowering Dogwood is one five tree species to be offered at this year’s Fayetteville tree and shrub giveaway.

Mayor Lioneld Jordan, along with members of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Urban Forestry Advisory Board, will give away free trees and shrubs to Fayetteville residents beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 in front of the Town Center on the downtown square.

Trees and shrubs will be given away on a first-come-first-served basis.

Tree species to choose from this fall include White-flowering Dogwood, Willow Oak, Pin Oak, Bald Cypress, and Swamp White Oak. Shrubs species include Oakleaf Hydrangea and Arrowwood Viburnum.

Residents may choose between a one-gallon containerized tree or a three-gallon shrub. Proof of Fayetteville residency is required, so make sure to bring a city utility bill and a driver’s license.

Informational flyers on tree species and planting instructions will be available with each tree. Urban Forestry staff and Urban Forestry Advisory Board members will be available for consultation.
