‘Winter’s Bone’ author Daniel Woodrell to appear at Ozark Literary Council event

Daniel Woodrell, author of the acclaimed-novel-turned-Oscar-nominated film “Winter’s Bone,” will be in Fayetteville on for Ozark Literacy Council’s annual fundraiser, An Open Book Affair on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Woodrell, who is originally from Springfield, Mo, is the author of eight novels, two of which have been adapted for the silver screen.

“Winter’s Bone” (starring Fayetteville native Lauren Sweetser) won two awards at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010, and nominated for four Academy Awards including one for best picture in 2011. Ang Lee adapted his work, “Woe to Live On” into the 1999 film “Ride With The Devil”.

The event on Oct. 20 is set for 6 p.m. at Pratt Place Barn. Locals 3 Penny Acre will perform, KUAF’s Kyle Kellams will emcee the event, and a silent auction to raise funds for Ozark Literacy Council is also planned.
