The Razorbacks reached their first ever Bowl Championship Series matchup in the history of the program when they faced Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl last year. Now it appears they are on track for a second straight BCS appearance.

There are still a lot games to be played this season, but Arkansas is ranked ninth in the initial BSC standings for 2011, released on Sunday.

According to arkansasrazorbacks.com, the ranking is the program’s highest in an initial BCS poll of any season, eclipsing the ranking of 12th in the initial poll in 1998.

The Hogs are 5-1 at the halfway mark this year, their best start under head coach Bobby Petrino.

Next up, Arkansas will take on Ole Miss on Saturday, Oct. 22 in Oxford, Miss. The game will kickoff at 11:21 a.m., and will be televised by the SEC Network.
