One year into her second term on the Fayetteville City Council, Adella Gray has decided to seek election to represent Arkansas House District 84.

The 71-year-old Ward 1 alderwoman announced her candidacy Saturday morning in front of the Fayetteville Town Center.

While Gray is so far the only announced candidate in District 84, the incumbent, Rep. Charlie Collins, R-Fayetteville, has said he plans to announce for re-election, Northwest Arkansas Times reports.

Gray’s City Council term won’t expire until Dec. 31, 2014. According to state law, she would be required to resign from the council if she wins the House race. After that, the remaining council members can either elect a replacement themselves or call a special citywide election.
