Weekend Flyer: Oct. 28-30

Meat Puppets

Halloween falls on a Monday this year which means you can celebrate every night from Friday through Monday without it even being weird.

You could even try out different costumes each night. For example, you could go scary-slutty-furry-cute, or slutty-scary-scary-furry, or slutty-Dick Vitale-slutty-slutty.

It’s up to you. It’s the weekend. Get weird (if you want).

Friday

We’ve heard rumors of a Zombie Crawl in downtown Fayetteville this weekend, though we haven’t been able to find any details or confirmation for it anywhere. Anyone know what’s up?

The Offshoot Film Festival is happening all weekend at UA Global Campus just off the square. Here’s the full schedule for the second annual event.

Halloween Party

Tunes-wise, arguably one of the most underrated bands ever, the Meat Puppets, are at George’s Friday night with real-life brother-sister group and frequent collaborators with Jack White of the White Stripes, Dex Romweber Duo. Oreo Blue will kick off the night for happy hour.

Beat Bachs brings his annual Halloween Dance Party 2011 to Club Fix Friday night, and for those who aren’t familiar, let’s just say that Mr. Bachs knows how to throw a party. We expect that you won’t recognize Club Fix when you walk in, in a good way.

Flipoff Pirates will be freaking everyone out with their funky tunes at Smoke & Barrel Friday night. By that, we mean making their ears happy, and their booties shake.

If you feel like a musical, you could check out West Side Story at Walton Arts Center. If you feel like a theatrical adaptation of a campy 1959 B-movie performed by kids, you should check out Teenagers from Outer Space at Arts Live Theatre. Your choice.

Stand-up comedy wise, Fools on Parade will be at UARK Bowl featuring Ryan Abshire, Ray Porter, Keef Glason, and host Troy Gittings.

Saturday

How about some sports? The Razorback football team is at Vanderbilt for another 11:21 a.m. kickoff on the SEC Network.

Mountain Sprout

Saturday in tunes, Mountain Sprout will be at George’s with local blues duo Tyrannosaurus Chicken.

A Good Fight will be at the Nightmare on Dickson Street Halloween Bash & Costume Contest at Rogue with Amsterdam and Revolution Butterfly.

If you feel like salsa dancing, I don’t know of anywhere else to do that in town other than Calle Soul’s Halloween Salsa Ball at UARK Bowl.

The Lightbulb Club will host their costume contest on Saturday with a Misfits tribute by Rattfink, and Smoke & Barrel is planning a Halloween version of Lucio’s Grown Folks Night.

Sunday

Renaissance and Fantasy Faire of the Ozarks is happening on Saturday and Sunday at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Get yourself ye ol’ turkey leg.

When was the last time you threw toast at a movie screen? You could do it without anyone getting weird about it during the showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at UARK Bowl Sunday night.

The 1 oz. Jig is at George’s, or you could watch the Zombie TV show THe Walking Dead at Smoke & Barrel with your friends.

Sports-wise, the basketball Hogs will be at Bud Walton Arena for their annual Red/White scrimmage beginning at 3 p.m.
