Openings: Q4 2011 Fayetteville boards, commissions and committees

It’s time to fill some open board, commission and committee positions here in Fayetteville.

City officials released the Q4 2011 list of vacancies and if interested, you’ve got until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 to apply.

This quarter’s openings include terms on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Environmental Action Committee, the Urban Forestry Advisory Board, and others.

Q4 2011 openings

ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
– Five terms ending 12/31/13
Meets: The Committee meets quarterly on the second Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Room 326 of the City Administration Building.
Description: The purpose of the task force is to review public comment, and advise City Staff on the prioritization and land acquisition/easements for sidewalks and trails within our City. They are also responsible for adopting Sidewalk and Trails Master Plans. Recommendations relating to trails are forwarded to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Recommendations relating to sidewalks are forwarded to the Transportation Division.

AIRPORT BOARD
– One Aeronautical Term Ending 12/31/16
– One University of Arkansas Term Ending 12/31/16
Meets: The second Thursday of each month at 3:00 pm in the Fayetteville Municipal Airport.
Description: This board seeks both general and technical citizen input and assistance in airport functions, to provide and encourage visionary planning and strong leadership for the airport, and to assist the City Council in matters pertaining to the operation, improvement, extension, and maintenance of the airport and other related facilities, property and easements.

ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD
– One unexpired term ending 6/30/13
Meets: Regular meetings are held the second Monday each month at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: This board acts in an advisory capacity to the Animal Services Superintendent, the Mayor, and the City Council on all policy matters pertaining to the Animal Services Division activities, and works to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that the programs, goals and objectives of the Animal Services Division are consistent with community needs and desires.

AUDIT COMMITTEE
– One unexpired term ending 12/31/14
Meets: The Committee shall meet at least three times annually, or more frequently as circumstances dictate.
Description: The Audit Committee serves in an advisory capacity between the City Council, the City’s independent auditor, internal auditor, and management. The Committee will review the City’s financial reports and internal controls regarding finance and accounting.

BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS
– One unexpired term ending 03/31/15
Meets: Regular meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 3:45 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The purpose of the board is to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged that there is error or ambiguity in any order, requirement, decision, interpretation, or determination made by the City Planner.

CONSTRUCTION BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT AND APPEALS
– Two unexpired alternate member terms ending 3/31/12
Meets: No regularly scheduled meetings. Members are telephoned a week in advance of meetings.
Description: This board hears and acts upon appeals regarding decisions made by the Building Inspector/Superintendent. It also hears appeals regarding construction materials to be used in new building construction and development. In addition, it hears appeals regarding enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures as specified in the Standard Building Codes.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION COMMITTEE
– Two citizen-at-large terms Ending 12/31/14
Meets: The second Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in City Hall.
Description: This committee works to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment, and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. It makes recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council on matters concerning the environment.

HOUSING AUTHORITY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
– One term ending 12/28/16
Meets: The fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The Housing Authority operates units of Public Housing and rental assistance in Fayetteville. Both programs are for low and very low income persons. All funds are provided through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
– Three terms ending 12/31/14
Meets: The first Monday of each month at 5:30 pm in City Hall room 326. Additionally, there are committee meetings that occur on a regular basis.
Description: Members of this board work in the public interest and speak for the general community. The duty of the board members is to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that programs, goals, and objectives are consistent with community needs and desires.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS BOARD
– One unexpired term ending 6/30/13
Meets: Regular meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The purpose of the Telecommunications Board is to advise the City Council on telecommunication issues and to coordinate and oversee telecommunications franchise systems and use of the public rights of way designated for public access, educational, and governmental (PEG) use in the City of Fayetteville as part of the City’s telecommunication infrastructure.

URBAN FORESTRY ADVISORY BOARD
– One Land Development Term Ending 12/31/13
– One university representative term ending 12/31/13
– One community citizen at large term ending 12/31/13
– One unexpired citizen at large term ending 12/31/12
Meets: Regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in Room 111 at City Hall.
Description:The purpose and intent of the committee is to advise the City Council on urban forestry and arboricultural related issues as an integral part of the City’s green infrastructure and to sit as the Wildland-Urban Interface: Firewise Advisory Board to advise the City Council on wildland and urban development related issues as an integral part of the City’s fire protection program and green infrastructure.
