Weekend Flyer: Dec. 9-11

Carter Sampson & The County Seat will celebrate the release of their new record, Mockingbird Sing at Smoke & Barrel Friday night.

Does anyone have any idea why this past week had at least three times as many days in it as a normal week?

We distinctly remember Monday happening three times in a row, then two Tuesdays, three Wednesdays, and five Thursdays before we finally got to Friday.

We’re not sure what that was about, but we’re looking into it. For now, enjoy a weekend, why don’t you? I think we’ve earned it.

Friday

The Nace Brothers are back in town for a happy hour show at George’s Majestic Lounge Friday night. Later on, Tab Benoit will be Louisiana-bluesing the faces off of people.

Singer/songwriter Carter Sampson will celebrate the release of her new album, Mockingbird Sing at Smoke & Barrel Tavern Friday night. Samson will be joined by her full band, The County Seat for the show, and locals Honeyshine are also on the bill.

If you like virtuoso jazz saxophone/clarinet players, you’ll love the Anat Cohen show at Walton Arts Center. There will be two performances, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m in the Starr Theatre.

There is a benefit for the NWA Rape Crisis Center at Mojo’s Pints & Pies Friday night, with music by Jeff Kearney and Randall Shreve.

Theatre-wise, TheatreSquared’s adaptation of It’s a Wonderful Life is at Nadine Baum Studios, and Mark Landon Smith is performing David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries at UARK Bowl.

Saturday

Smoke & Barrel Tavern is turning 3 years old, and they’re celebrating Saturday night with The Blind Pets, Lollipop Factory, An A+ Setup, and Matt Demon. Happy dadgum birthday, S&B. Thanks for being awesome.

Glory Bones are back at JR’s Lightbulb Club Saturday night, along with locals Real Live Vikings, and a disc jockeying performance by DJ Clunk.

Rogue has a big show with A Good Fight, Dreamfast, Friday Maybe Saturday and Left Holding The Gun, and Kory Montgomery is at George’s.

Sunday

There’s a discussion called Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense Of The American Civil War beginning at 2 p.m. at the Fayetteville Public Library on Sunday for all you history buffs.

Tunes-wise, Tin Pan Alley Cats are playing a brunch show at Greenhouse Grille, and Big Bad Gina is at George’s Sunday night.

Happy Birthday!
