Weekend Flyer: Dec. 16-18

We’re not sure where it’s coming from, but there’s a whole lot happening in Fayetteville this weekend.

It probably has something to do with the fact that it’s the last weekend before Christmas, and that everyone in town is going into stir-crazy-prevention-mode in advance of all the family time that’s headed their way.

For that reason, we’re going to go ahead and recommend doing something fun this weekend. With the holidays approaching, we can’t guarantee anything at all will happen in town next weekend.

Here are about a thousand choices.

Friday

George’s Majestic Lounge has a happy hour show with local dancey-cover band Ultra Suede. Later on, Ben Miller Band and Speakeasy will take the stage.

Comedian, actor, and exotic dancer (not an exotic dancer) Larry Miller will be at Walton Arts Center Friday night, performing his show, “Holiday Cocktails with Larry Miller.” Consider this: he was in Christopher Guest’s 2000 film, Best in Show, among about a zillion other movies.

Teenagers frontman Travis Keymer is back in Fayetteville, and has assembled a new band. They’ll be at Smoke & Barrel Tavern along with locals David’s Pegasus Friday night.

Metal-wise, Vore will be at Rogue celebrating the release of their new record, “Gravehammer.” Oklahoma City band Enfuneration and locals Abacinated open the show.

If you haven’t seen it yet (of if you want to see it again), there are several chances to check out TheatreSquared’s production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” at Nadine Baum Studios this weekend. Here’s the schedule.

Saturday

Mike Anderson’s hoop Hogs will get a chance to break their two-game losing streak Saturday when they take on Southeastern Louisiana at Bud Walton Arena. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.

A couple more holiday shows are happening Saturday night. Phunbags Comedy Improv perform a Christmas show at UARK Bowl, and The Moscow Classical Ballet will perform “The Nutcracker” at Walton Arts Center.

Music-wise, former-Fayettevilleians-turned-Little-Rockians, Color Club will play The Lightbulb Club Saturday night along with a new Little Rock band, RIOTS. The show is a fundraiser for a new split-record featuring both bands. Our friend Roger caught up with Color Club earlier this week.

Alternative rock band, Hurt, is on an acoustic tour, and they’ll be making a stop at Rogue Saturday night along with Jeffro and locals, Chasing Pictures.

Also in tunes, 1 Oz. Jig is at Smoke & Barrel Tavern, Kelly Road is at George’s Majestic Lounge, and Outside The Lines make their annual appearance at GoodFolk.

Sunday

George’s Majestic Lounge booked a last-minute Sunday night show, featuring Earl & Them with Jimmy Thackery.

You’ve got choices for music with your eggs on Sunday. Emelia’s Kitchen has Drew Packard, Common Grounds has Tiffany Christopher, and Greenhouse Grille has Beth Stockdell during brunch.
