Hundreds gathered on the Fayetteville square for the inaugural Last Night New Year’s Eve celebration on Saturday.

The event, organized by the Creative Economy Action Group, featured music, theatre, comedy and other entertainment at various venues around the square.

The group announced back in July their plans to revitalize and re-imagine the 13-year First Night tradition in Fayetteville after the original organizers of the celebration cancelled the event in 2010.

CEAG renamed the event Last Night due to a copyright issue, but promised that several of the signature activities from previous First Night celebrations would be included in the revitalized event.

One tradition kept alive was the giant puppet parade, featuring creations by local artist JoAnn Kaminsky.

Volunteer puppeteers marched the dragons, jesters and winged creatures around the square beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday.

We’ve included a few puppet photos below.
