A new bus pull-off area on Center Street could be finished as early as this week.

Fayetteville street crews are adding the finishing touches to a bus pull-off area along the north side of Center Street between West Avenue and School Avenue.

The project included construction of an area for Ozark Regional Transit and Razorback Transit buses to stop outside of traffic flow as well as some sidewalk improvements, a bench, a staircase, and two bus shelters.

According to a city news release issued in October, the improvements were made possible by Federal Transit funds from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department to implement New Freedom grant-funded projects.

Keith Shreve, the city’s assistant transportation manager, said all that’s left now is the addition of a couple of handrails and some minor work to the retaining walls.

“We’re doing some welding on the rails right now,” said Shreve. “If all goes well, we could have them in by the end of the week.”
