News Briefs

A mass of sports media, including many from Arkansas, gathered at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Mo. Wednesday morning to hear Dorial Green-Beckham (DGB), the consensus No. 1 receiver in the nation, announce his college destination.

For those tired of hearing the letters D-G-B, this morning’s news that Dorial Green-Beckham has chosen to play college football at Missouri should provide some relief. For Hog fans, it was pretty deflating. The 6-foot-6 wide receiver who is considered by many recruiting services to be the highest rated recruit in the country, had narrowed his choices to Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

Twelve Fayetteville High School students have been named candidates for the 2012 Presidential Scholars Program, which recognizes and honors some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Congrats, seniors!

We learned Monday that the 2012 Arkansas Music Pavilion season will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds instead of the Northwest Arkansas Mall. Buried in a related press release was news that the first act will be Colorado’s electronic duo, Big Gigantic.
