News Briefs

An elm tree wrapped in red holiday lights on the downtown square could soon be illuminated year-round if the Fayetteville City Council makes changes to a 2005 law that bans the display for longer than 60 days.

A portion of the holiday lights on the square could become a permanent downtown fixture if the City Council approves a change to a law that would allow the red lights on a large elm tree in front of the old post office building to remain lit year-round.

Acumen Brands, a Fayetteville-based company that operates 12 online storefronts, recently received a $4 million investment from Dillard’s. Acumen will help enhance dillards.com and help improve the overall online presence of the retail company.

Arkansas might not have gotten DGB, but the football team did receive 24 awesome commitments. “I’ve signed with Arkansas, and I’m looking forward to hitting those who didn’t,” said Vin Ascolese, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound linebacker from New Jersey.
