REVISED: Openings: Q1 2012 Fayetteville boards, commissions and committees

It’s time to fill some open board, commission and committee positions here in Fayetteville.

City officials released the Q1 2012 list of vacancies and if interested, you’ve got until 5 p.m. Friday, March 2 to apply.

This quarter’s openings include terms on the Advertising and Promotion Commission, the Fayetteville Public Library Board of Trustees, and the Planning Commission.

Q1 2012 openings

ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION COMMISSION
– One term ending 3/31/16
Meets: Regular meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Fayetteville Town Center.
Description: This commission administers the Advertising and Promotion Fund which is used for the promotion and encouragement of tourism and conventions.

ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD
– One unexpired term ending 6/30/13
Meets: Regular meetings are held the second Monday each month at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: This board acts in an advisory capacity to the Animal Services Superintendent, the Mayor, and the City Council on all policy matters pertaining to the Animal Services Division activities, and works to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that the programs, goals and objectives of the Animal Services Division are consistent with community needs and desires.

BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS
– One term ending 3/31/17
Meets: Regular meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 3:45 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The purpose of the board is to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged that there is error or ambiguity in any order, requirement, decision, interpretation, or determination made by the City Planner.

CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
– One term ending 3/31/18
Meets: Meetings are held whenever needed to administer tests and update eligibility lists.
Description: The Commission is responsible for examining and establishing eligibility lists for appointments and promotions within the Police and Fire Departments.
* Each commissioner must be a resident of the city for at least three years immediately preceding their appointment.

CONSTRUCTION BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT AND APPEALS
– Two terms ending 3/31/17
– Two alternate member terms ending 3/31/13
Meets: No regularly scheduled meetings. Members are telephoned a week in advance of meetings.
Description: This board hears and acts upon appeals regarding decisions made by the Building Inspector/Superintendent. It also hears appeals regarding construction materials to be used in new building construction and development. In addition, it hears appeals regarding enforcement of the minimum housing standards for existing structures as specified in the Standard Building Codes.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION COMMITTEE
– One unexpired term ending 12/31/13
Meets: The second Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm in City Hall.
Description: This committee works to address environmental concerns, to promote a safe and healthy environment, and to maintain the natural beauty of the environment within the city. It makes recommendations to other city committees and to the City Council on matters concerning the environment.

HOUSING AUTHORITY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
– One unexpired term ending 12/28/13
Meets: The fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The Housing Authority operates units of Public Housing and rental assistance in Fayetteville. Both programs are for low and very low income persons. All funds are provided through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
– One unexpired term ending 12/31/12
Meets: The first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall room 326. Additionally, there are committee meetings that occur on a regular basis.
Description: Members of this board work in the public interest and speak for the general community. The duty of the board members is to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that programs, goals, and objectives are consistent with community needs and desires.

FAYETTEVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
– Two terms ending 4/01/17
Meets: Regular meetings are held on the third Monday of even-numbered months at 4:00 p.m at the Fayetteville Public Library.
Description: The purpose of the Board of Trustees is to provide leadership in performing the mission of the Library; to serve as a liaison between the library and the city; and to ensure the library meets the informational, educational and recreational needs of the community.

PLANNING COMMISSION
– Three terms ending 3/31/15
– One unexpired term ending 3/31/14
Meets: Regular meetings are held the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
Description: The commission makes recommendations to the City Council regarding zoning changes, all annexations, and conditional uses. The commission also makes recommendations concerning amendments or changes to the Master Street Plan, General Land Use Plan, or other comprehensive planning elements.

PUBLIC FACILITIES BOARD
– Two terms ending 5/7/17
Meets: Scheduled as needed.
Description: The board is authorized to issue revenue bonds to finance residential housing, health care, and related facilities to persons of low or moderate income and for the elderly.

URBAN FORESTRY ADVISORY BOARD
– One unexpired land development term ending 12/31/13
– One unexpired citizen at large term ending 12/31/12
Meets: Regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in Room 111 at City Hall.
Description:The purpose and intent of the committee is to advise the City Council on urban forestry and arboricultural related issues as an integral part of the City’s green infrastructure and to sit as the Wildland-Urban Interface: Firewise Advisory Board to advise the City Council on wildland and urban development related issues as an integral part of the City’s fire protection program and green infrastructure.
