REPORT: Arkansas could add Rutgers to 2012 football schedule

UA Athletic Director Jeff Long’s search for a twelfth opponent for the 2012 Arkansas football schedule might be nearing completion.

According to a report by New Jersey’s Star-Ledger, Arkansas is close to finalizing a home-and-home series with Rutgers.

The series would start in Arkansas in 2012, and the Hogs would travel to New Jersey to take on the Scarlet Knights in 2013.

Arkansas has been looking for a non-conference opponent to replace the Texas A&M game on their schedule. The Hogs will still play the Aggies in 2012, but the the matchup will now count as a conference game since Texas A&M will join the SEC in 2012.

Conference realignment has shaken things up in the Big East as well. The Star-Ledger report states that if Boise State is added to the conference in 2012, the Arkansas-Rutgers series would likely fall through.

If the series does happen, it would be the first ever football matchup meeting between the two schools.
