A Shipley Do-Nuts restaurant is set to open soon at 1640 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville.

The building, once home to a longtime Sonic Drive-In and most recently, Big River BBQ, is less than a quarter mile north of Rick’s Bakery.

Temporary banners announcing the new business first appeared and then disappeared earlier this month, but are now back up along with a permanent sign.

Shipley Arkansas spokesman Roy Smith said he didn’t know for sure when the restaurant would open, but anticipated it being ready for business in a couple weeks.

A drive-thru window was recently installed on the north end of the building and a majority of the Sonic-style awnings have been removed.

The 75-year-old company which serves fresh doughnuts, kolaches, coffee, and other breakfast items, has over 250 stores in what it refers to as “the do-nut belt” of the country: Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas.

Smith said two other regional locations are in the works – one in Centerton and another in Fort Smith.

According to the company’s website, 15 Arkansas cities have Shipley locations including Benton, Bryant, Cabot, Conway, El Dorado, Forest City, Hot Springs, Jacksonville, Jonesboro, Little Rock, North Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Russellville, Sherwood, and Texarkana.
