Love Gone Bad

There’s an anti-Valentine’s Day fundraiser set for Monday Feb. 13 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. The event, benefitting 7Hills homeless center, will feature songs by Memphis bluesman Andy Cohen and stories from Memphis transplant Kathy McGregor.

UA Athletic Director Jeff Long’s search for a twelfth opponent for the 2012 Arkansas football schedule might be nearing completion. According to a report by New Jersey’s Star-Ledger, Arkansas is close to finalizing a home-and-home series with Rutgers.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will present a special exhibition of 45 paintings by Hudson River School artists on loan from the New-York Historical Society beginning May 5.

Friday Events, Feb. 10

Of all the bands that play happy hour at George’s regularly, one of the biggest draws is Big Uns, and they’ll be doing their thing Friday night starting at 6 p.m. Later on, Andy Frasco will be tickling the ivories.

There’s a rock show at Smoke & Barrel Tavern with Teenagers, The Plaid Jackets and The Blind Pets. Have you seen Teenagers new lineup yet?

New Orleans blues guitarist Jesse James is at Legacy Blues Lounge, and there’s a country show at Rogue with Kelly Road and Jason Strode Band.

If you’d rather see a musical, there’s one about cheerleading playing at the Walton Arts Center called Bring It On. Our theatre critic Tobias liked it .

Also, it’s the opening weekend of TheatreSquared’s Tigers Be Still at Nadine Baum Studios. We’ve heard good things about this one, too.

Broncho

The Razorback basketball team will try and redeem themselves for that embarrassing mess that happened in Georgia earlier this week when they take on South Carolina at Bud Walton Arena Saturday. Tipoff is at 12:30 p.m., and after the game, they’ll be showing the 40 Minutes of Hell documentary on the big screen.

Tunes-wise, there’s a good show at The Lightbulb Club. Jonathan Ford’s (Unwed Sailor) new band Broncho will perform along with Colin vs. Adam, and locals Teenagers. Read our interview with Broncho from November, and watch the video embedded. It rules.

Benjamin Del Shreve is celebrating his birthday at George’s Saturday night, and his band will play with Bear Colony, Friday Maybe Saturday, and Kingsdown. Happy birthday, Benjamin.

Phunbags Comedy Improv will perform a Valentine’s-themed show at UARK Bowl.

There’s also a big show at Legacy Blues with St. Louis-based trio Mississippi Fever, local blues-ers Tyrannosaurus Chicken are at Smoke & Barrel, and Rogue has funky-rockers The Very Special Guests and The Poggs.
