Adios, FHS gymnasium

Say goodbye to the Fayetteville High School gymnasium. It’s set to be demolished and replaced with a new competition arena as part of a complete transformation of the school. The last game is Feb. 24.

New sidewalk alert! Sidewalk work on Razorback Road is set to begin next week near Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The project includes construction of a new sidewalk, curb and gutter along the east side of the road between Cleveland Street and Maple Street.

The University of Arkansas will give Walmart heiress Alice Walton an honorary degree during the spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12 to recognize “her lifetime of contributions” to Arkansas.

JT Wampler’s tries out Acme California Pale Ale from North Coast Brewing Co. in Fort Bragg, Calif. in the latest installment of “It’s All About The Beer.”

Friday events, Feb. 17

Smoke & Barrel Tavern has an awesome Kansas City Americana band, The Grisly Hand Band Friday night along with Austin-based folk band Atomic Duo.

There’s another Cool Shoes event at Rogue, featuring Wolf-E-Wolf, Cam Holifield, Baby Armie, and Bizar. Dance party.

George’s has a happy hour show with FOS Project and Earl & Them starting at 6 p.m. Later on, there’s a big show with Zoogma, The Floozies, and Montu.

Theatre-wise, there’s only one show, and it’s TheatreSquared’s Tigers Be Still at Nadine Baum Studios. Have you seen it yet?

Saturday events, Feb. 18

Mardi Gras parade

Do you like chili? (Of course you do.) There’s a chili cook off at Pratt Place Inn called Chilirhea 2012. Here’s some more info.

Saturday, a bunch of crazy fools in masks and hats will be parading down Dickson Street throwing beads to everyone lining the street. It’s the Fat Saturday Parade of Fools. Mardi Gras! Later on, there’s a Mardi Gras masquerade party at East Square Plaza.

Tunes wise, JR’s Lightbulb Club has Sound Of The Mountain and Send + Return, George’s has a nearly sold out show with Chasing Pictures and A Good Fight, and Flatland Travelers are back at Smoke & Barrel.
