Million Dollar Quartet, the national tour of the Broadway musical hits Walton Arts Center this week and on stage is 20-year-old Harrison, Ark. native Cody Slaughter.
The musical, which takes a look at what happened one night in 1956 when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered at Sun Record Studios in Memphis for a one-time jam session, stars Slaughter as “the King.”
Slaughter, who has no formal vocal training or dance lessons on his resume, first began impersonating Elvis Presley in elementary school talent shows.
He’s since performed as Elvis in a variety of places including on stage in Branson, Mo. and at a party featured on MTV’s My Super Sweet 16.
Last summer, he won the 2011 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, an annual event from Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. which seeks to find the “best representation of the legacy of Elvis Presley.”
With an honor like that, it’s no surprise Slaughter was picked to play Elvis on a national tour of a Broadway act.
