This week’s beer: Pyramid Hefeweizen unfiltered wheat ale

This ale pours with a nice, white head that settles to a thin, but persistent layer across the top of the pint. I swirled the last little bit of the beer in the bottle to rouse the yeast and give it a cloudiness that is desired in the style.

The Pyramid Hefeweizen aroma is a little like Juicy Fruit gum with a hint of grassiness. There is hardly any aroma of banana or cloves as this style of beer calls for.

The taste is mild and slightly metallic which creates a flavor that is very thin and almost watery.

Overall, this is a weak beer with nothing special or even interesting about it.

I’m not a fan of too many wheat beers and this one isn’t going to change my mind. Wheat beer should be consumed when it’s fresh and perhaps this bottle was a little past its prime.

Pair with spicy Thai food.
