First Thursday Fayetteville returns April 5, booth space is available

The outdoor artwalk became a part of First Thursday two years ago and has grown into a much anticipated event drawing visitors from all over the region to the downtown Fayetteville Square. This year the artwalk will expand onto the entire Square creating space for even more local artists and their wares.

First Thursday Fayetteville returns to the downtown square for its fourth season Thursday, April 5, and officials are seeking local artists and non-profit organizations to fill booth space for the evening.

The monthly art walk event, which grew to include 60 artists by the end of last season, could grow to feature as many as 100 artists and non-profit booths when it expands this year.

Organizers were recently given the go-ahead to double the footprint of First Thursday by closing off all four streets surrounding the square from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Previously, only East Avenue and Mountain Street were authorized for closure during the event.

Besides street art vendors, the free First Thursday event also features live music, street performers, food and drink, children’s activities, and an occasional free movie after dark.

Artists

All artists will be selected through an open application process followed by a juried review.

Interested artists are asked to apply online by the 20th of each month at firstthursdayfayetteville.com. If selected, a $20 reservation fee is required and must be paid by the 25th of each month.

Musicians

Musicians interested in performing at First Thursday are welcome to apply online at firstthursdayfayetteville.com. April 5 music will be provided by local artist Tiffany Christopher and the Whiffenpoofs, a male a cappella group from Yale.

Non-profits

Local non-profit organizations looking to promote an art-related event are encouraged to apply for booth space on the square this season. Organizers interested in applying may do so by calling Tanner Montgomery with the Fayetteville Visitors Bureau at 479-521-5776.
