Deadline for spring A&P funding requests is Friday, March 30

If you’re planning on submitting a funding request to the Fayetteville Advertising & Promotion Commission for an event in the second half of 2012, you’ve got about a week to finish it up.

Spring funding requests are typically due on April 1, but interim director Town Center facilities manager Sandra Bennett told us that applications will be due on Friday, March 30 since the deadline falls on a Sunday this year.

Twice each year, the commission reviews applications for amounts larger than $2,000. Applicants who are approved, receive “seed money” for their event. The money comes from half of the revenue generated by the two percent Hotel-Motel-Restaurant (HMR) tax.

The city’s parks department receives the other half.

Last November, the commission awarded $182,828 in funding to help fund 22 separate projects during its regular fall funding distribution.

Spring distribution totals are typically smaller due to lower sales tax collections during the period. Last spring, the distribution was even smaller due to expenses related to renovations on the Town Center. Only $61,800 was released during the spring of 2011.

The requests are expected to be available for the commissioners to review at the regular April A&P meeting. The commission will meet in May to discuss and vote on the final distribution amounts.
