Legendary songwriter John Prine to play 2012 Fayetteville Roots Festival

When the Fayetteville Roots festival lineup was announced in March, organizer Bryan Hembree told us he was working on securing a second headliner that would turn some heads in the folk world.

Mission accomplished.

Hembree confirmed today that legendary singer/songwriter John Prine will co-headline the festival, set for August 23-26, with David Grisman Folkjazz Trio.

Prine has been releasing records since the 70s, and is well-known for his crafted songs and lyrics that can be both hilarious and poignant, quirky and sad.

He is the winner of the 2003 BBC Radio Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

He’s a genius, and I can’t believe he’s coming to Fayetteville. Yeow.

A limited number of ‘Friend of the Festival’ passes go on sale at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 16 at fayettevilleroots.com, and other ticket option information will be released soon.

For now, celebrate the fact that one of the best songwriters of our generation is coming to town.
