Washington County Historical Society plans April 21 Battle of Fayetteville commemoration

The Washington County Historical Society will commemorate the 149th anniversary of the Battle of Fayetteville this Saturday, April 21.

Festivities will begin at 9 a.m. at the Headquarters House, 118 E. Dickson St., and will last until around noon. Admission is free.

The battle, which took place April 18, 1863 in downtown Fayetteville, was one of the last
major engagements of the Civil War in Northwest Arkansas.

Expect living history presentations and battle-related activities on Saturday including a description of the battle and a commemoration for those who lost their lives. Free campfire cooking will be offered while supplies last.
