Creative home builder Dan Phillips of Phoenix Commotion, will speak at Mount Sequoyah Retreat Center on Saturday, April 21.

Phillips’ company creates low-income housing by using apprentice labor and recycled or salvaged building materials.

“I think mobile homes are a blight on the planet,” he told the New York Times in a 2009 interview. “Attractive, affordable housing is possible and I’m out to prove it.”

He will speak about his unique building approach, which frequently features discarded items like license plates, shards of ceramic tiles, shattered mirrors, old DVDs, and other durable items with an ultimate goal to keep them out of landfills.

The talk is set to begin at 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
