As TheatreSquared wraps up a successful sixth season with their current production of “The Fall of The House,” the theatre company is already looking ahead to next season.

T2 Artistic director Robert Ford and Managing Director Martin Miller recently announced the lineup for the company’s seventh season scheduled to begin this fall, including four plays and another installment of the annual Arkansas New Play Festival.

The season includes Oliver Award-winning comedy “Noises Off,” a holiday showing of Tennessee Williams’ “Period of Adjustment”, critically acclaimed play “Sons of the Prophet” by Stephen Karam, and three-time Tony Award-winning musical “Next To Normal.”

Ford said Season 7 is TheatreSquared’s most ambitious yet.

“From the extreme highs of pure comedy to one of the most grounded, heartfelt new works in a decade; from an unearthed work by one of America’s greatest playwrights to the breakout hit that redefined the American musical,” he said, “it gives us great pride to be able to bring these bold works to Northwest Arkansas.”

Subscriptions start at $84 and can be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center at 479-571-2785 or by visiting theatre2.org/subscribe.

Descriptions provided by TheatreSquared

Noises Off

Description: The 2012/13 season launches with “Noises Off”, Michael Frayn’s acclaimed, tour-de-force backstage farce. When a company of nine sets out to produce a touring comedy, frayed nerves and backstage betrayals plunge the production into chaos—from midnight rehearsals to a shambolic first night to the final disastrous performance. Critically hailed as one of the smartest comedies ever written, Noises Off, directed by Morgan Hicks. (recommended for ages 13+)
Dates: Aug. 30 – Sept. 23, 2012

Period of Adjustment

Description: For the holiday season, TheatreSquared rediscovers Tennessee Williams’s only comedy, “Period of Adjustment,” set on Christmas Eve, 1958. With snow falling and Christmas specials on TV, George and Isabel are having the honeymoon from hell. After a calamitous wedding night, he’s left her stranded with his old army buddy, Ralph, whose own wife has just stormed out. Rarely seen since its 1960 debut, “Period of Adjustment” is a humorous, moving exploration of love and the need for human warmth. (recommended for ages 13+)
Dates: Dec. 6 – 30, 2012

Sons of the Prophet

Description: In the New Year, TheatreSquared Season 7 continues with 2012 Pulitzer Prize finalist “Sons of the Prophet,” by Stephen Karam, called “ravishing” (The New Yorker) and “soul-piercing” (The New York Times) in its 2011 Broadway debut. Joseph, a young Lebanese-American living in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, has a maddening job, unexplained chronic pain, and a crisis simmering at home. With equal parts comedy and tragedy, “Sons of the Prophet” is a refreshingly honest and painfully funny take on how we cope with wounds that refuse to heal. (recommended for ages 17+)
Dates: Feb. 14 – March 3, 2013.

Next To Normal

Description: The 2012/13 T2 Subscription Series concludes with “Next to Normal,” winner of three Tony Awards and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Featuring a compelling contemporary score, Next to Normal shatters the façade of a suburban family dealing with the direct and indirect effects of mental illness. To face the future, they must first come to terms with their past in this intense, emotional and ultimately uplifting musical. “Next to Normal” was chosen as one of the year’s ten best shows by critics including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. (recommended for ages 13+)
Dates: April 18–May 12, 2013

2013 Arkansas New Play Festival

The 2013 Arkansas New Play Festival, TheatreSquared’s fifth annual celebration of new works, will be staged June 14-16, 2013, with dates and titles for the celebration of new works to be announced in January 2013. The Festival seeks to give voice to emerging playwrights whose timely and relevant stories resonate with the shifting demographics of Arkansas and mid-America, and will be staged both at T2’s home theatre in Fayetteville and at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre in Little Rock.
Dates: June 14-16, 2013
