Arkansas Music Pavilion officials led a media tour Wednesday afternoon of the AMP’s new location at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

The 2012 season begins Thursday night with a performance by Cake.

The Walton Arts Center-owned outdoor music venue was previously located in the Northwest Arkansas Mall parking lot where it operated for six seasons since its opening in 2005.

Unsuccessful lease negotiations with the new management of the mall caused the need for a new location this year. The AMP’s one-year agreement with the fairgrounds includes an option to renew for an additional year at the end of the term.

The new ashphalt-free location features more grassy lawn space outside the 22,000-square-foot tent area with a four-foot natural grade for increased site lines.

Other additions include an upgraded VIP lounge and parking area, a bigger stage and room for expansion to accommodate larger acts.
