For the first time ever, commencement ceremonies for University of Arkansas students graduating in Bud Walton Arena will be live-streamed on the world wide web.

The three May 12 ceremonies include the All-University ceremony for graduate students at 8:45 a.m., the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences commencement beginning at 1 p.m., and the College of Education and Health Professions ceremony beginning at 4 p.m.

University registrar Dave Dawson said the decision to live-stream the ceremonies came in response to requests from international students. Cameras and other capabilities inside Bud Walton Arena

“The students wanted their families and friends who couldn’t attend the ceremony to have a way of viewing the event live,” Dawson said. “With the help of the staff at media services and university relations we can provide a virtual way for our students to share this event.”

In total, seven commencement ceremonies for about 2,700 students will take place in various locations on Saturday, but only those occurring in the camera-equipped Bud Walton Arena will be live-streamed.
