A Springdale man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville, according to a news release issued by the Fayetteville Police Department.

James McQuillian, 46, was headed west on Borrick Drive near Armstrong Avenue at about 1:42 p.m. Sunday, March 31 when his 2006 Chevy Malibu hit a body of standing water in the roadway, which caused his vehicle to leave the road and collide with a utility pole on the north side of the road.

According to police, McQuillian’s vehicle was traveling “at a high rate of speed” at the time of the accident. He was not a wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

McQuillian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the department is investigating the accident.

POLICE INVESTIGATE FATALITY ACCIDENT

Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor announced today the department is investigating a fatality accident on Borrick Drive.

On Sunday, March 31, 2013 at approximately 1:42 P.M., Fayetteville Police officers responded to Borrick Drive near Armstrong Avenue, in reference to a report of a one vehicle accident.

James McQuilliam, age 46 of Springdale was westbound on Borrick Drive at a high rate of speed, when his 2006 Chevy Malibu hit a body of standing water in the roadway. His vehicle left the roadway and collided with a utility pole on the north side of the road. McQuilliam was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle.

McQuilliam was pronounced dead at the scene.
