Drivers can expect slower moving traffic on a portion of North Street this week.
The outer, eastbound lane of the road is closed between Leverett and Gregg avenues while a Transportation Division crew works to install a storm drain inlet.
Construction began Tuesday morning and is expected to wrap up sometime on
Thursday (Update: Officials said Thursday that work would continue through Monday, May 6).
According to a news release, the work will help reduce street flooding in the area just west of the Scull Creek Trail crossing near the construction site of the Marion Orton Recycling Center.
The roughly 0.75-acre site will be similar to the city’s only other recycling drop-off facility at 1420 S. Happy Hollow Road, and will include a paved area with eight large containers for residents to recycle glass, aluminum, plastic and paper products.
Brian Pugh, the city’s waste reduction coordinator, said the new drop-off center will be staffed by an attendant 40 hours per week and that informational signs will be placed at nearby apartment complex dumpsters to encourage residents to use the facility.
