Fayetteville Public Library kicks off summer reading club June 1 at

The Fayetteville Public Library will kick off its summer reading program with a special event from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 1.

The reading program, called “Dig Beneath the Surface,” offers prizes and incentives intended to inspire children and their families to spend time reading over the summer. Once they are registered, children and adults can log titles they’ve read to be entered to win iPads, bicycles, cash and other prizes.

The program also features over 80 free events including live music, movies, performances, and workshops for toddlers, children, teens, and adults at the library.

Activities scheduled for the kick off event on June 1 include a Dig for Treasure excavation play area for children, bounce houses, a basketball toss, face painting, a magician, and live music by Shawn James & the Shapeshifters.

“This will be the biggest kickoff celebration the library has ever had, and we are ready to get the summer started,” said David Johnson, executive director for the library. “Summer time is fun time at the library.”

Artists scheduled to perform at the library this summer include Grammy-nominated band The Pop Ups, Trout Fishing in America, 3 Penny Acre and others.
