Flyer Guide: Springfest 2013, June 22 in downtown Fayetteville

Original photo by Micah Laney

For the 30th time, music, art, and bed races will once again fill Dickson Street as part of Fayetteville’s annual Springfest celebration.

The event, which began in the early 80s, went on hiatus in 2012, but returns for a day-long street party on Saturday, June 22.

This year’s Springfest was originally scheduled for May 4, but was postponed when unseasonably late snow and cold temperatures hit the area.

A few things have changed since we posted a guide to the original festival, so without further adieu, here’s our updated guide to the fun at this year’s Springfest.

2013 Springfest Events

Springfest kicks off with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at Jose’s on Dickson Street. Admission is $5, and all proceeds will benefit the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

Right after that, the Springfest 5K run is set to begin at 7:30 a.m.

Around 60 arts, crafts, food vendors, and local business booths will be ready for browsing at around 9 a.m. along the street. Among them, Flying Possum Leather will be making a quasi-return to Dickson Street with a booth, local pickle-maker Garret Gunderson will be selling his increasingly popular Gunderpickles, and local t-shirteurs Fayettechill will have a booth.

The main tent, including official Springfest t-shirts designed by local artist Chad Maupin, will be set up directly across from Jose’s.

At 11 a.m., a dog parade led by Bugsy “the Dickson Street dog” will make its way down Dickson Street. Those who would like to participate in the dog parade should meet at Dickson Street Liquor at 10:30 a.m.

The bed races begin at 1 p.m., and will feature teams of three individuals competing head-to-head in a race up Dickson Street.

At 6 p.m., a pub crawl begins on the Jose’s patio. Registration is $10, and includes a t-shirt for crawlers that visit all the participating watering holes.
