NWA Center for Equality plans ‘Decision Day’ rally on June 26

Members of the Northwest Arkansas Center for Equality are planning to hold a rally in Fayetteville this week in support of same-sex marriage equality rights.

The rally is set for Wednesday, June 26, and is intended to coincide with rulings on two U.S. Supreme Court cases on the issue.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday is expected to issue decisions on United States v. Windsor, a case challenging Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), as well as Hollingsworth v. Perry, otherwise known as the Prop 8 case.

“This is a historic moment for the LGBT community,” states a press release issued Tuesday by center officials. “These gatherings will show that support for equality runs deep in every community across this nation – regardless of one’s age, race, religious beliefs or political affiliations.”

The rally will take place from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, at the corner of Dickson Street and College Avenue. Organizers say the rally will go on as planned regardless of the final outcomes of the two cases.
