The Fayetteville Roots Festival is taking over the city this weekend. Friday night headliners include 3 Penny Acre, Joe Pug, Iris Dement and Del McCoury beginning at 6 p.m. at the Walton Arts Center. There’s a new exhibit in the Walton Arts Center gallery called True Faith, True Light The Folk Instruments of Ed Stilley worth checking out.

There’s a late-night show at George’s Majestic Lounge with Reverend Peyton Big Damn Blues Band Revolution Tour, including Jimbo Mathus and Alvin Youngblood Hart.

Kingfish has a Roots Festival show with Shawn James and the Shapeshifters and Vine Brothers, and Maxine’s has a free show with Air Loom and Joe Mack and Thomas Trapp.

If roots music isn’t your thing, there’s a rock show at The Lightbilb Club with locals Resin Hands and The Chads.

The Fayetteville Farmers’ Market will be hopping Saturday with a free Fayetteville Roots Festival stage beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Town Center Plaza with Fork and Knife, followed by Allie Farris, Allison Williams and Willie Goehring, J Wagner, and Adam Cox. There’s also an open mic stage in front of The Mustache.

If you missed the screening of the Levon Helm documentary Ain’t in it for my Health, there’s another chance to see it at Fayetteville Public Library on Saturday. The film will begin at 11 a.m., and admission is free.

There’s also music all day at George’s from 1 p.m. until around 5 p.m., and then again late night with headliners Paul Benjamin and Hayes Carll.

The Fayetteville Roots Festival main stage at Walton Arts Center features Mary Gauthier, Elephant Revival, John Fullbright, and Jerry Douglas on Saturday. Check out the full Fayetteville Roots Festival lineup here.

In non-roots music Saturday, there’s metal from Eyes of Iron at Smoke & Barrel Tavern.

Sunday Events, Aug. 25

Tales from the South, a North Little Rock-based radio show focusing on southern writers, will broadcast live from Fayetteville Public Library at 3 p.m. on Saturday featuring songwriters Mary Gauthier and Michael Fracasso. There’s a food and drink reception at 1 p.m., and the event is free to attend.

Maxine’s Tap Room has a new Sunday night feature called The All You Need to Know Show. The show, created by some of the folks behind Artist Laboratory Theatre, is a variety show featuring poetry, performance art, and songs by local performers about a specific topic.
