Overnight lane closures are planned this week on Interstate 540 between the Wedington Drive and Porter Road exits.

Crews will install a precast concrete barrier wall which will require closure of the outside, northbound lane of I-540 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for about three days beginning Tuesday night (Sept. 24).

The work is part of a widening project that will add a third lane in each direction of I-540.

The Arkansas Highway Commission opened bids for the project in late July. The low bidder was Pace Construction of St. Louis at $16.6 million.

Highway officials urge motorists to use care and think ahead when traveling through the work zone.

“They should remember to Obey the Posted Speed Limits and Other Regulatory Signing; to Maintain a Steady Speed; to Leave Room between them and other vehicles; to Be Aware of Road Conditions in front of them; and to Anticipate the Unexpected Need to Stop or Reduce Speed Substantially due to construction vehicles entering and exiting the work zone,” the release stated.

Increased traffic enforcement is expected in the work area.
