Blues Challenge set for Wednesday at George’s

If you’re free on Wednesday night, and if you like blues music, the party for you is at George’s Majestic Lounge.

The Ozark Blues Society will host its annual Blues Challenge on Wednesday, Oct. 2, where 11 artists will compete to represent the state in the 2014 International Blues Challenge.

Participants will compete in the solo/duo and band categories. The winners in each division will advance to the finals, set to be held in Memphis in January 2014. The annual event includes some of the best blues musicians in the world competing for cash, prizes and industry recognition.

Participating acts in the solo/duo catgory at George’s Wednesday night are Lucious Spiller, Jones’n Leah, Nina Medley, Jimmy Wayne Garrett and 7th Sun. Band participants include Brick Fields and The Chosen Ones, The Downtown Livewires, West Street Blues Band, Blind Trust Blues Projects, Delta King Soybeans and Mississippi Fever.

Past winners of the local challenge include Leah & the Mojo Doctors, Nathan A & Max RPM, Ray Bonneville, Kory Montgomery, The Eoff Brothers, The Brick Fields Band, Adam Posnak, Scott Leeper, Isayah Warford and Buddy Shute.

Admission to the show on Wednesday is $5, and a portion of the proceeds from the door go toward helping the winning musician with their Memphis travel expenses.
